Understanding Hepatitis B e (Envelope) Antibody
What is Hepatitis B e (Envelope) Antibody?
The hepatitis B e (Envelope) antigen test is performed to diagnose hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is also performed as a part of a panel of hepatitis B tests to find out if the infection has been acquired recently. Patients who test positive for hepatitis B e Ag are more infectious as compared to Hepatitis B e Ag negative patients.
Your doctor may advise this test if symptoms of acute hepatitis appear like fever, fatigue, joint pain, dark coloured urine and pale coloured stool, etc. Also, if you are suspected of being exposed to HBV, this test can help to check for HBV. During recovery from acute hepatitis B, HBeAg level declines and becomes undetectable in blood while hepatitis B e-antibodies appear and become detectable in blood.
