What is Hepatitis E Virus IgM Antibody?
This test is used to diagnose Hepatitis E infection by measuring IgM antibodies formed in response to the viral infection. IgM detection is the earliest and definitive diagnosis of HepE infection.
Symptoms of hepatitis E are not clinically distinguishable from other types of acute viral hepatitis. They include fever, jaundice, pain, nausea, rashes etc. Hepatitis E spreads through oral fecal route and contaminated water. Maintaining hygienic practices and consumption of clean water can prevent the chances of infection. Immunocompromised patients and infants are more prone to develop severe symptoms of chronic hepatitis.
What is Hepatitis E Virus IgM Antibody used for?
- The anti-HEV IgM test is performed when the patient shows symptoms of hepatitis and is suspected of having been exposed to hepatitis E virus recently.
