Understanding ECG at Home
What is ECG at Home?
Electrocardiography (ECG) is a test used to monitor the electrical activity of heart for assessing any heart related disorders. It is done if a patient has symptoms like irregular heart beat, chest pain, palpitations and shortness of breath. It is a common, quick and painless method to check the health status of heart and diagnose certain heart conditions like heart attack, angina, endocarditis and ischemia.
Electrodes connected to an ECG machine are placed on certain body parts including chest, arms and legs. Electrical activity of heart in response to these impulses is recorded, visualized and interpreted.
It is also done before performing a heart surgery and to monitor the working of an implanted pacemaker.
Abnormal ECG pattern can be an indication of a severe heart condition.
