Understanding NCV Upper Limbs
What is NCV Upper Limbs?
Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is used to measure the speed of an electrical impulse through the nerves of arms for detecting any nerve damage . It helps to find the presence, location, and extent of diseases that damage the nerves and muscles. During the test the nerves are stimulated with electrode patches attached to the skin. The resulting electrical activity is recorded and interpreted.
This test is advised in case of symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning sensations in various body parts. Generally an EMG (Electromyogram) test is also recommended along with NCV test to check the muscles function in response to nerve stimulus.
