Doxofylline is a new generation long-acting oral bronchodilator. It is a methyxanthine derivative.

Doxofylline inhibits an enzyme called phosphodiesterase which results in bronchodilation (dilation or widening of the airways in the lungs by relaxing the surrounding smooth muscle).
