How Briolite Products work

Levocetirizine + Montelukast is a combination of two medicines: Levocetirizine + Montelukast1 and Levocetirizine + Montelukast2, which relieves sneezing and runny nose due to allergies. Levocetirizine + Montelukast1 is an antiallergic which blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Levocetirizine + Montelukast2 is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose, and improves symptoms.

Patient Concerns about Briolite Products

Frequently asked questions about Briolite Products

Frequently asked questions about Briolite Products

Q. My child has a persistent cough along with allergic symptoms. Can I give cough and allergy medicine together?
No. Do not mix cough and allergy medicines because they usually both contain similar ingredients. This may result in double dosing of the active ingredients, thereby causing serious side effects.
Q. Can I decrease the dose of Briolite Syrup by myself if my child starts to feel better?
No, adhere to the dose as prescribed by your child’s doctor. Do not increase or decrease the dose by yourself as it can impact your child’s health. While increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, decreasing the dose or stopping it suddenly can result in rebound reversal of all symptoms.
Q. How should Briolite Syrup be stored?
Briolite Syrup should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Also, keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children to avoid any accidental intake.
Q. Can Briolite Syrup make my child sleepy?
Briolite Syrup causes mild drowsiness which can make your child sleepy. However, never give this medicine to your child to induce sleep. Forced sleep could mask any underlying sleep disorder like insomnia.
Q. My child is an athlete and has to participate in a sports event in the next two days. Can I start the course of Briolite Syrup?
No, don’t start Briolite Syrup without speaking to your child’s doctor. Moreover, Briolite Syrup can hamper your child’s performance as it may cause mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness. So, it’s best to reach out to the doctor first.
Q. Can I stop the medicine by myself?
No, all symptoms may reappear on sudden withdrawal of Briolite Syrup usually if taken for a long-term. It is advised to stop this medicine gradually under the guidance of your child’s doctor.
Q. My child is suffering from a mood disorder. Is it safe to give Briolite Syrup to my child?
Some studies show that Briolite Syrup can cause mood disorders, hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, and trouble controlling body movements. Therefore, consult your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. Can I use Briolite Syrup for treating acute asthma attacks in my child?
Briolite Syrup should only be used to prevent asthma attacks. It should not be used to stop an attack that has already started. Use your child’s reliever medicine to help with an attack that has already started.
Q. What is Briolite Syrup?
Briolite Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Montelukast and Levocetirizine. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic which helps to relieve allergy symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes and cough. It works by lowering chemicals in the body that cause allergy symptoms. Montelukast works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene) and reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose. This further helps to relieve the symptoms.
Q. Can the use of Briolite Syrup cause drowsiness or sleepiness?
Yes, the most common side effect of Briolite Syrup is sleepiness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or engage in other activities that need your full attention unless your doctor says that you may do so. Do not drink alcohol or take other central nervous system depressants, such as cough and cold medicines. Also avoid taking certain pain relief medicines and medicines that help you sleep as they can lead to severe drowsiness or can worsen it, causing falls or accidents.
Q. Can Briolite Syrup be stopped when allergy symptoms are relieved?
No, Briolite Syrup should be continued as advised by the doctor. If you experience any side effects of this medicine or the symptoms of allergy are worsened, consult the doctor for re-evaluation.
Q. Can the use of Briolite Syrup cause dry mouth?
Yes, the use of Briolite Syrup can cause dry mouth. If you experience dry mouth, drink plenty of water. Take regular sips during the day and keep some water by your bed at night. You may use lip balm if your lips are also dry.
Q. Can I drink alcohol while taking Briolite Syrup?
No, do not take alcohol while taking Briolite Syrup. Drinking alcohol will increase the severity of drowsiness/sleepiness caused by Briolite Syrup.
Q. Will Briolite Syrup be more effective if taken in higher doses?
No, taking a higher dose of this medicine than recommended will not make it more effective. Consuming higher than the recommended dose of Briolite Syrup can cause increased side effects. If the symptoms are getting severe, please consult the doctor for re-evaluation.
Q. What are the instructions for storage and disposal of Briolite Syrup?
Keep this medicine in the container or the pack it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children, and other people.
