Understanding NCCT Scan KUB

What is NCCT Scan KUB?

The NCCT KUB Scan is the Non-Contrast Computerized Tomography Scan of the kidneys, ureter, and bladder. It’s a diagnostic method where rotating beams of X-rays create multiple cross-sectional images of the upper tract, namely kidneys, ureters, and bladder. This forms a 3-dimensional image of the organs to detect and diagnose various disorders.

The NCCT KUB scan is done to diagnose obstructions of the upper respiratory tract like stones inside the kidney and bladder, to detect abnormal growth in the kidney and bladder, diagnose conditions affecting renal structure and functioning, and assess the efficacy of a kidney transplant.

It is recommended to inform the doctor in case of pregnancy, since the radiation may affect the fetus. If needed, precautions are often taken to lower the radiation exposure to the fetus.

What is NCCT Scan KUB used for?

  1. • To diagnose the obstructions in the upper urinary tract like stones in the kidneys or bladder • To detect presence of tumors (abnormal growth) in the kidneys or bladder • To detect infections or inflammations in the upper urinary tract • To detect lesions or abscesses in the kidneys • To detect and diagnose conditions affecting renal structure and functioning • To guide diagnostic procedures like biopsy or treatment procedures like kidney transplant • To assess the efficacy of a kidney transplant
