Understanding Culture AFB, Urine
What is Culture AFB, Urine?
Culture AFB, Urine test can accurately detect the presence of acid-fast bacillus (AFB), a bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB) infection, leprosy (a skin infection), and other chronic skin infections affecting people with weak immunity. Doctors also recommend this test for TB patients to check if the treatment is working.
It is a painless and risk-free test in which you have to collect your urine specimen (50ml of first-morning urine) and submit it. Lab technicians examine it for the presence of bacteria. A positive result means you have an active TB infection or a similar type of infection. Accordingly, doctors start the essential treatment with antibiotics. So, consult a doctor if you experience fatigue, fever with chills, a persistent cough, and others.
It will take 3 weeks for the provisional report and 6 weeks for the final report.
