Amylase Urine
Understanding Amylase Urine
What is Amylase Urine?
Amylase Urine Test is used to detect the amount of amylase enzyme present in the urine. Amylase digests the complex carbohydrates into glucose in our bodies. Amylase is produced by the pancreas and salivary glands. Unusual symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal or back pain, fever, weight and appetite loss may require immediate doctor's attention. In healthy adults, the normal range of amylase detected in the urine is between 6.5 and 48.1 units/hr.
Abnormally high levels of amylase in the urine may indicate pancreatitis, cancer, cysts, intestinal blockages, salivary gland infection, inflammatory bowel disease, or kidney disorders. It is a risk-free procedure. High levels of cholesterol or triglycerides may alter the test results. Possible pregnancies must be reported to the doctor before providing the urine sample.
