Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet is used in children for the treatment of a variety of respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, lung abscess, acute and chronic bronchitis, and sinusitis. Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet contains two different medicines, Amoxycillin and Bromhexine, that work together to kill the bacteria that cause respiratory tract infections.
Amoxycillin helps in stopping the growth of bacteria. Bromhexine helps to loosen thick mucus, making it easier to cough out. This makes it easier for air to move in and out. This medicine may help your child feel better within a few days, but you should continue giving it as prescribed to make sure that all bacteria are killed and do not become resistant.

How Otymox Tablet works
Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet is a mixture of two medicines, Amoxicillin and Bromhexine. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing the formation of the protective covering of bacteria. Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent that helps thin and loosen mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Together they both act to treat respiratory tract infections associated with excessive mucus (phlegm).

Additionally, it is important to know that irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet can make the bacteria resistant, affecting the future course of treatment.
Are there any possible serious side effects of Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet?
Although rare, Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Therefore, if your child experiences any such unwanted effects, consult your child’s doctor at the earliest.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet ?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Change in the color and consistency of mucus in common cold is normal. This does not mean that your child needs antibiotics. Common cold symptoms often last for 7-10 days. In case the symptoms fail to clear up within this duration, reach out to your child’s doctor for guidance.
Is Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet safe for children suffering from infectious mononucleosis?
No, do not give this medicine to your child in this case. Reports suggest that a high percentage of children with infectious mononucleosis develop a skin rash (erythematous rash) while taking Otymox 125mg/4mg Tablet.
