Understanding MRI PNS With Contrast
What is MRI PNS With Contrast?
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) PNS (paranasal sinuses) with Contrast creates a picture of the 4 paired air-filled spaces that surround the nasal cavity pituitary gland and surrounding the soft tissues. The contrast helps in increasing the visibility of the internal organs and hence improves the sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy of the MRI scan.
This test is prescribed by the doctor to diagnose intracranial extension of the sinonasal region due to infection or swelling and to find out the condition of sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) or paranasal cancer.
What is MRI PNS With Contrast used for?
- To diagnose intracranial extension of sinonasal region due to infection or swelling.
- To detect tumor of the sinuses, abscess (pus within the tissues cavity), cellulitis (infection of the skin and tissues beneath the skin)
- To find out the condition of sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) or paranasal cancer/tumor/cyst.
- To look for acute or chronic rhinosinusitis (sinus infection), rhinitis (irritation & inflammation of the mucous membrane inside the nose), and adenoids (inflammation in the lymph node behind the nose).
