Lipid Profile, Non Fasting
Understanding Lipid Profile, Non Fasting
What is Lipid Profile, Non Fasting?
A lipid profile (non-fasting) is a group of tests used to measure the amount of cholesterol (fats) in your blood. This profile measures triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), total cholesterol, LDL/HDL ratio and total cholesterol/HDL ratio. This profile helps to predict your risk for heart diseases such as heart attack or stroke. You may need this profile as a routine test to determine if your cholesterol levels are normal or if you have a family history of heart disease. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and an active lifestyle help maintain a healthy weight and lower the risk of heart disease.
Note: The Lipid Association of India (LAI) recommends both fasting and non-fasting lipid profile test for managing abnormally elevated cholesterol or fats (lipids) in the blood. However, a non-fasting lipid profile is required to determine the levels of triglyceride fats in the blood post meals.
