Allergy - Drugs, EIA test is used to diagnose potential allergies against some medications that can act as an allergy-casing substance (allergen) in the body. A drug allergy refers to an abnormal reaction against certain medications. The test detects IgE antibodies using a technique called enzyme immunoassay (EIA). IgE antibodies are produced by our immune system in response to an allergy to protect the body against specific allergens. The most common signs and symptoms of a drug allergy include hives. fever, itching, swelling, and rash. Individuals having a history of other allergies or a family history of drug allergies are more prone to drug allergies. Once recognized, the use of such medicines should be avoided.
