Dabrafenib is used in the treatment of malignant melanoma.
How Dabrafenib works
Dabrafenib is an anti-cancer medication. It works by blocking the activity of BRAF, a mutated protein that regulates cell growth. A BRAF mutation enables cells to divide at abnormal rate and grow into a melanoma tumor.

Expert advice for Dabrafenib
- Dabrafenib is used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat a type of skin cancer called melanoma.
- Take it on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
- Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
- Use a reliable contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy while you are taking this medicine and for 4 months after you stop taking it.
- Inform your doctor if you get headaches, stomach pain or if you notice blood in your urine or stools.
- Get regular eye examinations while taking this medicine. Inform your doctor if you get eye irritation, blurred vision, eye pain or other vision changes during your treatment.
- Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms of liver damage such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
