How Roxam Tablet works

Migraine headaches are thought to result from the dilatation of blood vessels in the head. Roxam Tablet is a serotonin antagonist. It works by maintaining the level of serotonin (chemical messenger) in the brain and also prevents loss of tone and dilation of blood vessels, thus preventing the migraine headache.

Does Roxam Tablet cause weight gain?

Yes, Roxam Tablet causes weight gain. This is because of an increase in appetite. If there is an increase in hunger than usual, you can include fresh low-calorie foods in your diet. These are much healthier than processed high-calorie foods. Your doctor can give you advice about diet as some kind of foods are known to trigger migraine.

Does Roxam Tablet cause dry mouth?

Yes, it may cause dry mouth because it has anti-cholinergic side effects, though these effects are relatively weak.

Can Roxam Tablet affect blood pressure?

No, Roxam Tablet does not affect the blood pressure. However, if more than the recommended dose of Roxam Tablet is taken, low blood pressure may occur.

Does Roxam Tablet make you sleepy?

Yes, Roxam Tablet makes you sleepy, drowsy, and dizzy. Avoid driving and operating heavy machinery while using Roxam Tablet.

What should I tell my doctor before starting Roxam Tablet?

Inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines. You should tell your doctor if you have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes), difficulty in passing urine (water) due to prostate trouble or any other cause. The doctor should also be informed if you had or have convulsions, fits, or seizures, and kidney-related problems. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. Any intolerance to some sugars should be told as well because Pizotifen tablets have lactose, a type of sugar.

How long do I need to take Roxam Tablet?

Roxam Tablet should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. This medicine only helps to prevent migraine, it does not treat migraine attack. Do not stop the medicine and take it regularly, even if you feel well.

Can I take Roxam Tablet with paracetamol or ibuprofen?

Yes, Roxam Tablet can be taken with paracetamol or ibuprofen, as it does not interfere with the working of paracetamol or ibuprofen. Similarly, these medicines do not interfere with the working of pizotifen. However, consult with your doctor before taking any medicine.

What can happen if I take more than the recommended dose of Roxam Tablet?

If you have taken more than the recommended dose of pizotifen you may experience drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, fits or excitement (particularly in children). You may also feel difficulty in breathing or controlling movements, fast heartbeat, low blood pressure, dry mouth, feeling or being sick, blueness of the skin, coma or respiratory paralysis. Inform your doctor and seek immediate medical help.
