Olmetor-H Tablet is a combination of two medicines. It helps to control high blood pressure in different ways. If high blood pressure is not treated it can lead to heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.
Olmetor-H Tablet is a combination of an antihypertensive and a diuretic medicine.

In Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Olmetor-H Tablet is a combination of two medicines namely Olmesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. It is generally used when one medicine alone is not controlling your blood pressure effectively. Olmesartan works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels so your blood can flow more easily. This will lower your blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is known as a diuretic (water pill) which increases urine output thereby lowering blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Olmetor-H Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Olmetor-H Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you forget to take Olmetor-H Tablet?
If you miss a dose of Olmetor-H Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If a patient develops diarrhea while taking Olmetor-H Tablet and no other cause of diarrhea can be deduced, then the doctor may advise the patient to discontinue it immediately and recommend another medicine.
What are the serious side effects of Olmetor-H Tablet?
The serious side effects of Olmetor-H Tablet include skin rash or itchiness, painful joints, fast heart beat, shortness of breath or tightness in the chest. Serious side effects may also include aching, tender or weak muscles not caused by exercise and swelling of the hands, feet or ankles. Olmetor-H Tablet may also cause symptoms that may indicate high potassium levels in the blood, such as nausea, diarrhea, muscle weakness and change in heart rhythm. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately.
Can Olmetor-H Tablet affect my fertility or sex life?
Some blood pressure medicines (including water pills like hydrochlorothiazide) may affect a man’s ability to gain or maintain an erection (erectile dysfunction). However, it is thought that other blood pressure medicines can actually improve erectile dysfunction. If you are worried or notice some changes, talk to your doctor. There is no firm evidence which suggests any effect on the fertility of either men or women with the use of Olmetor-H Tablet.
For how long do I need to take Olmetor-H Tablet? Is it safe to take long term?
You may have to take Olmetor-H Tablet life long. Olmetor-H Tablet controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Do not stop taking it even if your blood pressure is well controlled. Olmetor-H Tablet is generally considered safe to be taken for long term. In some cases, long-term use may adversely affect the kidneys and the kidneys may not function as they should. Therefore, your doctor may prescribe regular blood tests to check urea, creatinine and potassium levels to keep a track of how well your kidneys are working.
Can I take Olmetor-H Tablet before surgery?
Your doctor may advise you to stop taking Olmetor-H Tablet 24 hours before surgery. This is because Olmetor-H Tablet can further reduce your blood pressure when used with anesthetics. So, inform your doctor that you are taking Olmetor-H Tablet if you will be given general anesthetics (medicines that put you to sleep) or are scheduled to have any surgery.
