Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections such as tooth abscess, gum infection, pneumonia, diarrhea, dysentery, peritonitis, burning sensation while passing urine, and certain genital tract infections. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying. You may start seeing an improvement in the infection within 3 to 5 days of regular dosing. But, you must still finish the full course of the medicine and never stop it abruptly by yourself as that may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. How Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension works

Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.

Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections.

The reason being, one of the ingredients present in Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and can lead to disulfiram reaction, causing nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.

What if I give an overdose of Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension by mistake?

An extra dose of Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension? Is it normal?

Ofloscan MN Oral Suspension contains active ingredient metronidazole, which causes red-brown urine. It is not pathogenic but a side effect. It subsides once the medicine is stopped after the completion of the treatment.
