Your child’s medicine at a glance

Frix LB Syrup contains two ingredients, one antibiotic and one probiotic. While the antibiotic helps kill a wide range of bacterial infections, the probiotic prevents the antibiotic from causing digestive problems as a side effect. It does so by restoring the balance of good bacteria in the intestine.

Frix LB Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Frix LB Syrup1 and Frix LB Syrup2.

In Treatment of Bacterial infections

Frix LB Syrup is an antibiotic medicine. It is commonly given to children to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including infections of the eyes, middle ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying.

Children usually start showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of the regular dosing. You must continue giving the medicine even after seeing this improvement because stopping the medicine abruptly may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

Quick tips

  • Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
  • Frix LB Syrup may cause a bitter taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
  • Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
  • Never give Frix LB Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms.
  • Stop Frix LB Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

FAQs

My child is suffering from liver failure and his investigations showed high blood ammonia levels. Is it safe to give Frix LB Syrup?

No. It is better to avoid giving Frix LB Syrup as it contains lactobacillus which can further elevate the levels of blood ammonia and increase the risk of serious complications like coma.

What if I give too much of Frix LB Syrup by mistake?

Avoid giving more than the recommended dose because overdose may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition. Although an extra dose of Frix LB Syrup is unlikely to harm, if you think you have given too much of Frix LB Syrup to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

Are there any possible serious side effects of Frix LB Syrup?

In rare cases, Frix LB Syrup may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, and allergy. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Frix LB Syrup?

Frix LB Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Frix LB Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Frix LB Syrup?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

No, yellow or green mucus in the nose does not mean that antibiotics are needed. It is normal for mucus to thicken up and change from clear to yellow or green. With symptoms often lasting for 7-10 days, this is exactly how a common cold generally progresses.
