Epimate 100mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat epilepsy (seizures) and to prevent migraines. It is also used in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a rare, but severe form of epilepsy that starts in early childhood).

Epimate 100mg Tablet is an anticonvulsant (or anti-epileptic) medicine that works by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures. It helps reduce symptoms such as confusion, uncontrollable jerking movements, loss of awareness, and fear or anxiety.
This medicine is not associated with any physical or psychological dependence (addiction) but it should not be stopped suddenly. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. Missing doses may trigger a seizure.

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a rare but severe form of epilepsy that usually starts in early childhood. Affected children may experience several different types of seizures. Epimate 100mg Tablet helps prevent and control these seizures by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures.

For how long do I need to take Epimate 100mg Tablet?

Serious side effects of Epimate 100mg Tablet are rare. The serious effects of Epimate 100mg Tablet may include glaucoma (difficulty in seeing, eye pain, and blurred vision), kidney stones (sharp pain in your sides or lower back), and metabolic acidosis (tiredness, loss of appetite, irregular and faint heartbeat). Other serious side effects of Epimate 100mg Tablet could be suicidal thoughts and insufficient sweating (some children taking Epimate 100mg Tablet may not sweat enough in hot weather, causing their body temperatures to rise).
I am taking valproic acid for fits. Will Epimate 100mg Tablet interfere with the working of valproic acid? Can this combination be taken?
Epimate 100mg Tablet does not interfere with the working of valproic acid, but it increases the risk of getting excess levels of ammonia in the blood (hyperammonemia). Increased levels of ammonia in the blood can be dangerous and may cause difficulty in thinking, remembering information, or solving problems. It may also decrease your alertness and make you feel very sleepy with low energy. Immediately inform your doctor if you notice these symptoms. It is important to know that, in rare cases, Epimate 100mg Tablet alone can cause hyperammonemia.
Can Epimate 100mg Tablet be used in children?
Yes, Epimate 100mg Tablet is used for seizures in children more than 2 years of age. However, because of the lack of any reports, this medicine is not recommended to be used in children for migraines.
Since I have started using Epimate 100mg Tablet people are saying that I have lost weight. Is it because of Epimate 100mg Tablet or something else for which I should get investigated?
It could be due to Epimate 100mg Tablet because Epimate 100mg Tablet commonly causes weight loss probably due to a decrease in appetite. If you still have any doubts, talk to your doctor who will advise you appropriately.
