Diabetes mellitus (Type 1 & Type 2)

Description of Diabetes mellitus (Type 1 & Type 2)

Diabetes is a complex, chronic condition in which blood glucose (sugar) levels are consistently above normal. In this disorder your body’s ability to produce insulin or effectively respond to it is impaired. Insulin is a hormone which regulates your blood glucose by helping it enter the body cells from your blood.
There are mainly three types of diabetes – type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Other lesser known types are latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA), neonatal diabetes, maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) and secondary diabetes.
